The java applet will automatically log you in as a guest, to change your nickname when connected look to the bottom right hand side of the applet and enter a new nickname underneath where it says "Change nick to" and press ENTER!
You can also change your nickname by simply typing: /nick newnamegoeshere
If you have a registered nickname you will need to identify, to do this type: /pass yourpasswordgoeshere
